Back to the Future Part III

The final installment finds Marty digging the trusty DeLorean out of a mineshaft and looking for Doc in the Wild West of 1885. But when their time machine breaks down, the travelers are stranded in a land of spurs. More problems arise when Doc falls for pretty schoolteacher Clara Clayton, and Marty tangles with Buford Tannen.

The western-set finale lands somewhere between a crowd-pleaser and a mild disappointment depending on who you ask: audiences responded warmly, but critics were genuinely split over whether its lighter, more romantic tone is a welcome return to the first film's spirit or a sign that the series has run out of ideas. The Lloyd–Steenburgen romance is either the film's beating heart or its blandest element, and the Old West setting reads to some as inventive and to others as a cheap backlot sitcom.
