DivisiveShah Rukh Khan's portrayal of a man with Asperger's syndrome drew near-universal admiration from Indian critics, and the film's first half was widely regarded as Karan Johar working with unusual restraint and maturity. The second half — particularly a flood-rescue sequence and what many called a forced, over-heroic climax — is where the film lost a significant number of reviewers, and the gap between warm domestic reception and cooler international critical opinion is real and worth knowing about.
