Forks, Washington resident Bella Swan is reeling from the departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen, and finds comfort in her friendship with Jacob Black, a werewolf. But before she knows it, she's thrust into a centuries-old conflict, and her desire to be with Edward at any cost leads her to take greater and greater risks.
Critics were largely dismissive of New Moon, finding it slow, overlong, and emotionally inert — though devoted fans responded far more warmly. The central fault line was whether Kristen Stewart's committed performance could compensate for a film that many felt was dramatically inert and punishingly repetitive. Even the more charitable reviewers tended to treat it as functional franchise product rather than a film of genuine merit.
