One of the more decisively panned blockbusters in recent memory, Rebel Moon drew near-universal criticism for leaning on borrowed mythology — Star Wars, Seven Samurai, and a dozen other genre touchstones — without earning any of it. The minority who defended it did so narrowly, praising Snyder's visual ambition while conceding the characters and story are essentially hollow; the majority found the spectacle itself exhausting rather than exciting.
