Critics were nearly unanimous in dismissing Men in Black: International as a hollow franchise extension, with the central complaint being that the film has no compelling reason to exist beyond its stars' obvious charm. Thompson and Hemsworth's chemistry earned the most consistent praise, but reviewers found it wasted on a plot too thin and formulaic to do anything interesting with it.
