Shane Black's 1970s LA noir-comedy earns genuine enthusiasm for Gosling and Crowe's comic chemistry and Black's sharp, self-aware dialogue — but critics who loved it and critics who dismissed it are harder to reconcile than the film's own mismatched leads.
