One of the most harshly reviewed video game adaptations in recent memory, Assassin's Creed wastes a strong cast — Fassbender especially — on a convoluted, joyless plot that most critics found neither thrilling nor coherent. The one mildly dissenting note was that it clears the low bar set by the genre, which says more about the competition than the film.
