Critics found San Andreas exactly as advertised — spectacular destruction with little underneath — and that was both the point and the problem. The CGI set-pieces and Dwayne Johnson's presence earned goodwill, but reviewers were sharply divided over whether gleeful shamelessness qualifies as a virtue or an excuse.
