Daddy's Home

The story of a mild-mannered radio executive who strives to become the best stepdad ever to his wife's two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling, freeloading real father arrives, forcing stepdad to compete for the affection of the kids.

Critics largely dismissed Daddy's Home as a comedy that wastes a genuinely likable pairing: Ferrell and Wahlberg have real chemistry, but the film rarely finds anything inventive to do with its premise about competing father figures. Audiences were considerably kinder than critics, and filmmaker Sofia Coppola has since singled it out as a personal favorite — a gap between critical and popular reception that is itself part of the film's story.
