What critics thought
Critics largely rejected this Universal Monsters revival, finding its gothic atmosphere and production design more impressive than its screenplay, which generates little suspense or genuine horror. Del Toro's performance drew some defenders, but the CGI transformation effects and a listless script were recurring complaints — and audience reaction was nearly as cold as the critical response.
