Disney's first CGI feature landed with a thud among most critics, who found the script stuffed with pop-culture filler in place of genuine wit or emotional stakes. A handful of reviewers defended its energy and charm for younger audiences, but the majority felt the studio's technical ambitions outpaced its storytelling — and the film's own director later voiced regret that an earlier, bolder version was never made.
