What critics thought
A loose remake with no real connection to its 1953 source, this teen slasher landed mostly negative reviews for its formulaic plotting and thin characterization, though a handful of critics found genuine genre fun in its elaborate set design and kill sequences. The gap between its harshest detractors and its defenders — some of whom gave it four or five stars — makes it one of the more divisive horror entries of its era.
