The weakest entry in the trilogy by a wide margin, 'Revolutions' was broadly panned as a hollow spectacle that traded the series' philosophical provocation for extended action set-pieces. Critics found it anticlimactic, felt it resolved little of what 'Reloaded' left open, and judged its ideas thinner than its predecessor's — though a minority, including Roger Ebert, argued it at least gave franchise followers the closure they came for.
