Gladiator II

Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.

Ridley Scott's sequel delivers the arena spectacle audiences came for, with Denzel Washington's flamboyant performance generating most of the film's energy — but critics are divided on whether it amounts to anything more than an expensive echo of the original. The action and visuals land; the emotional weight largely doesn't, and the sense that the film is too structurally similar to its predecessor is hard to shake.
