In 2047, a group of astronauts are sent to investigate and salvage the starship Event Horizon which disappeared mysteriously seven years before on its maiden voyage. However, it soon becomes evident that something sinister resides in its corridors.
What critics thought
DivisiveCritics in 1997 largely dismissed Event Horizon as derivative, shallow, and gratuitously gory — a haunted-house horror dressed in sci-fi clothes that squandered a genuinely unsettling premise. A minority of early defenders found real merit in its imagery and atmosphere, and the cast drew praise even from hostile reviewers; the gap between that critical cold shoulder and its enduring cult following is now arguably the most interesting thing about the film.
