Rocky V

A lifetime of taking shots has ended Rocky’s career, and a crooked accountant has left him broke. Inspired by the memory of his trainer, however, Rocky finds glory in training and takes on an up-and-coming boxer.

Rocky V landed with a thud on release and has only aged worse — critics largely found its attempt to return to street-level grit unconvincing, its plot developments clumsy, and its overall execution a misfire. The notable exception was the Los Angeles Times, which considered it the strongest of the sequels, while audiences at the time responded warmly; in hindsight, Time placed it among the worst ideas of the entire twentieth century, and even Stallone himself has disowned it.
