Tango & Cash

Ray Tango and Gabriel Cash are two successful narcotics detectives who can't stand each other. Crime lord Yves Perret, furious at the loss of income they have caused him, plots an elaborate revenge against them.

Critics largely dismissed Tango & Cash as a formulaic and illogical buddy-cop entry that squanders its two leads, though audiences at the time were considerably more forgiving. The interesting wrinkle is Dave Kehr's reading of the film as knowingly absurdist — a foreign director's winking satire of American excess — which sits awkwardly against the more straightforward pans from the New York Times and Los Angeles Times.
