At the International Wool Secretariat competition, 18-year-old Yves Saint Laurent and 21-year-old Karl Lagerfeld are honoured. Whilst Saint Laurent takes over Dior shortly afterwards and founds his own label, Lagerfeld becomes a master of constant reinvention. The former friends become bitter rivals, not least because of Jacques de Bascher, Lagerfeld’s flamboyant partner, who also comes dangerously close to Saint Laurent.
