Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his home-world and the end of Asgardian civilization, at the hands of a powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela.

Taika Waititi's reinvention of the Thor franchise as a gonzo cosmic comedy landed well with most critics, who credited his irreverent touch with rescuing a series that had felt directionless. The ensemble — particularly Hemsworth, Blanchett, and Goldblum — drew widespread praise, though a minority of critics felt the relentless comic energy tipped into exhausting overkill, leaving little room for the story or even its own hero to breathe.
