What critics thought
Finch lands in mixed-to-decent territory — warmer with audiences than with critics, and easy to enjoy in the moment, but difficult to defend as anything more than a well-worn genre exercise. Tom Hanks carries the film on charm alone, and most critics agreed that was both its greatest asset and a way of papering over a formulaic, predictable script. The central argument was whether heart is enough when originality is absent.
