Five years after meeting her three fathers, Sophie Sheridan prepares to open her mother’s hotel. In 1979, young Donna Sheridan meets the men who each could be Sophie’s biological father.

Critics were genuinely split on this ABBA sequel: fans and sympathetic reviewers found it disarmingly joyful and more self-aware than the original, while detractors felt Meryl Streep's near-absence left a hole the film couldn't fill and that some musical numbers stalled the momentum. The gap between warm audience enthusiasm and a more cautious critical middle ground is very much part of the story here.
