DivisiveCritics and audiences landed in very different places on this sequel — moviegoers turned out in huge numbers while reviewers found it a loud, mechanical retread of the original that trades the first film's spontaneity for bigger explosions and diminishing returns. The central complaint wasn't Murphy himself but the film around him: a carbon copy that offers nothing the original didn't already do better.
