Evolution landed poorly with critics, who found it a scattered, hit-or-miss comedy that squanders a promising premise. The film draws obvious comparisons to Ghostbusters, but where that film crackled, this one sputters — the laughs that land are outnumbered by the ones that don't, and the third act collapses into lowest-common-denominator spectacle.
